Brookfield Farmers' Market

The Brookfield Farmers' Market was created by a group of volunteers which included Joanne Lewis and others working with then Mayor Kate Bloomberg decided to establish a market for local farm produce in Brookfield. The idea was put forth in 1990 and was already in the Brookfield master plan. The next year was taken up with many meetings, working on permits and other activities in order to get a market up and running. The first year of operation the market was staffed by all volunteers from the city.

Farmers' Market Today

Today after nearly two decades of operation, the market is thriving. It has become not only a place where residents can purchase Wisconsin grown products, but has also become a Saturday meeting place for many of the residents. It is a Saturday morning ritual for many people and also draws customers from surrounding communities as well as Brookfield. The market provides quality Wisconsin grown products at a reasonable price. Many of the vendors have been at the market for well over 10 years. The market continues to grow under the direction of Ms. Bobbi Harvey, who has held the position of Market Manager for the last 18 years.

Market & More

Market & More was established to include arts and crafts at the market on a monthly basis. As the Farmers' Market grew, there were many requests from crafters to be part of the market and sell their creations. The market guidelines only allowed for products related to gardening or landscaping. In an effort to both provide an outlet for the crafters and also expand the concept of the market it was decided to experiment with having crafts on a trial basis to see if it  would be accepted by the customers. In 2005, one Saturday was set aside for adding arts and crafts. The first Market & More had 12 vendors. It was a success and today the Market & More is held each third Saturday of the month and has had up to 100 vendors who participate throughout the season.
